  • Yes!!! Jewish Farmer Network formed from the need and desire for a Jewish community that centers and uplifts Jewish agrarians, from every point of the kaleidoscope of Jewish (and agricultural!) identity, background, and experience. We are not gatekeepers or arbiters of who is Jewish. If you hold Jewish heritage or identity, you are welcome. If you come from a multi-tradition household/family, you are welcome. If you are a Jew-by-choice, you are welcome. If you have never stepped into a Jewish space before, you are especially welcome. Come as you are, as you are. We are thrilled to meet you, to learn from you, and to craft ever-more accessible spaces for learning and connection.

Week 2: Understanding the Jewish Agricultural Calendar with Kizmet Grace

The Jewish Calendar is a tool to measure in time spirals inward and outward, offering connections on levels of lifetimes, land, celebrations, and much more. In this session, we will build a shared understanding of both how the Jewish Calendar is an explicit reflection of our agrarian roots, and how tracking cycles of months, holidays, and agricultural tasks interacts with our past, present, and future.

Kizmet Alexandria Grace (he/him) is an artist and visitor on O’odham and Yaqui Territory. He is multi-passionate, committed to presence and care. He has previously been (and may again be): a flower medicine practitioner and somatic coach as part of his practice Bloom & Root; a Creative Assistant for Rebekah Erev Studio; and a co-author of the Shmita Hives curriculum with his chevruta, Asher Edes, inspired by their connection in ALEPH's Kesher Fellowship. The Shmita Hives curriculum offers options for participants to study together, practice rest and collective care, access play and embodiment, identify needs in their local communities, and collaborate on social/environmental justice projects in time with the Hebrew calendar. He loves learning about and transforming his relationship to time through many methods.

Join Jewish Farmer Network

We are a community of Jewish farmers and food system professionals from around the world working to integrate ancient Jewish agricultural wisdom into our lives. Together, we are building a community where every part of your identity is welcome; leave nothing at the door.

Long ago, our agrarian ancestors codified a calendar of holidays that reflected both their storied history and the agricultural movements of the seasons. After thousands of years of diaspora, displacement, persecution and exile, much of the Jewish community regards the agricultural tenants of the Jewish tradition as mere metaphor. We are bringing this rich body of wisdom back to life in the fields of our farmers.
